The Stevens automatic bell striker
The first automated fog signal system used on the Great Lakes
The 10" steam whistle
First installed as a test at the South Manitou Island light station, the ten inch steam whistle quickly became the standard throughout the Great Lakes
The Diaphone fog signal
The diaphone represented such an improvement over the steam whistle, that all Great Lakes fog signal installations were eventually converted to diaphones. 
The electric diaphragm
First installed during the 1970's, these sound signals are still in use throughout the lakes.
